I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Perhaps the RAM was configured in a mirror configuration?  Not sure about Lenovo, but Dell has this option. If this is the case, it is typically changed in BIOS and/or physical RAM slots.

What is the proper Server Version, IBM/Lenovo doesn't make an R540, Dell does make a Poweredge R540.

Single or Dual CPU? If Dual then you have to have equal amounts of ram for each cpu
