Repoint G suite email impact?

I need to move a G suite users email back to an exchange server. I don't have office 365 setup yet to migrate their files etc. Can I moved the domain name so that exchange will receive the email but still continue to login to G suite for accessing files. Will I even be able to login when the mail records are repointed?

Hi there,
To answer your question, changing the MX record to point to Exchange, instead of G Suite should not influence the access to G Suite accounts in any way. When you change the MX record to point to Exchange, you will not be able to send or receive emails in Gmail. After the switch is finished, emails will go to the Exchange Server.
The traditional way to migrate mailboxes is to first move at least the most recent emails and to change the MX records afterwards. The reason for that is to ensure that the migration does not make it harder for users to work. Switching between accounts just to find even the most recent emails might not be the best idea, comfort-wise.
If you want to make the migration process as seamless as possible for users and easy from the administrative point of view, you can use a third party tool to perform the transition. This short article shows you can use CodeTwo software to easily migrate from GSuite to Exchange/Office 365.
