Program to launch FTP and other scripts

I would like a program that will run FTP commands, download and export, and run perhaps other scripts - but automatically, in the background, at specific times, and also manually triggered.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Take a look at WinSCP (assuming this is a Windows question???), it's great for things like this.  Check out the "scripting and automation" information linked to the page below.

While you could indeed write batch files that execute FTP commands, it is awkward at best, as you have to generate script files to use as input to FTP.  Ugh.  Powershell is a far better solution, though you have to do some up-front work in learning how to use it.  You'll definitely be able to handle everything you need from there, though.

If you JUST want to automate FTP, you could also consider WS_FTP, which supports some level of automation.  Since you are not specific about your needs, though, I cannot tell you if this will meet all of them.
