terminal monitoring is initiated on a connection by connection basis.

To set up, input the following to global

monitor logging

When a new session connection is made, run the following command

terminal monitor

when you no longer wish to receive logging messages to the terminal, run:

no terminal monitor

You can change the size of the buffer itself:

logging buffer-size *

where * is the size of the buffer you wish to define in KB
ex.
loggin buffer-size 256

defines a buffer limit of 256KB

The logging history size can only be defined for the logging buffer and asdm.  No ability to define for terminal session if that is what you asking.  Also, the default logging buffer size is 4KB.
