I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Depends on your setup.

Recent advances in SharePoint and OneDrive allow the collaborate function where multiple people can work on the same file.

if not SharePoint or OneDrive but just a shared local network then you can use the Shared Workbook feature. This used to be very unreliable and caused errors but it might have improved in recent years.

Shared Workbooks do have limitations, can't use Tables (including Pivot tables) for one.

You can use the collaboration (also known as co-authoring) features of Excel and share it, but that requires access to something like Microsoft OneDrive that supports the sharing function.

A short video introduction of how it works is available at this Microsoft Support Link

Alternatively, you could also look at Google docs as a possible free Excel alternative and save in a format compatible with Excel.
