recover data from USB External drive that was used for windows server backups.

we have a windows 2012 r2 server and as an alternative added backup, we've windows server backup running which backups up to an external dedicated drive.

Server died.

want to know if I can take the usb drive and plug it into another  windows 10 computer and extract the data.   and How.

In general, the backups are stored as VHD files.  Mount them on another computer and you should be able to see the files.
