Restoring Veeam backup to a remote site from the remote site will only restore in network mode and not hotadd mode

I am using Veeam to backup copy virtual machine from the datastore on a local vCenter system to a remote vCenter datastore.   Actually I backup the local VM and then run the backup copy from the local to the remote.  Now I want to restore the VM from the remote datastore to the remote vCenter system.    The restore works just as advertised but it is only restoring at 7MB/s and I was told by Veeam support that the restore is running in network mode and not hotadd mode.    The process works but very slowly.  Veeam support says that there is a permissions issue with the datastore that is causing the restore to fail out of hotadd mode and I am not sure where to look for assistance in resolving this.   Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Did Veeam provide any info on what permission issue ?

What account  are you using for Veeam ?

Backup and Replication 9.5 is the version we are on.     No, Veeam told me I would need to contact VMware about the permissions.

The account you are using with Veeam, can it create a VM ?

Yes I restored a 150GB VM and it restored properly but only in network mode and only at 7MB/s

Veeam Support suspect permissions are incorrect, because hot add mode cannot function.

which they suspect is permissions based, assuming if you were able to use hot add mode, it may be faster.

do you get this error message

"HotAdd is not supported for this disk, failing over to network mode"

Hi,

First connect to your Veeam Backup in that remote location. Then install vSphere Client (or use Web Client), enter the vCenter you need to restore with the same user/password you are using to connect to vCenter from the Veeam.

After you be able to connect to the vCenter try to open a datastore and then browse. For testing try to upload/download files to that datastore. With this you will check the permissions you have on that vCenter with the user/pass.

Uploading here the restore log will also provide some information about the issue.

Yes I was able to open the datastore and browse.      I was able to remove upload some data to the store.

add a virtual machine disk using this user account to your Veeam Backup server!

Veeam support was wrong.   It was not permissions.   It was the fact that I didn't have shared storage with the Host on the vCenter at the DR site.   Once I had the shared storage the restore went must faster.
