What is the risk of using this command and deleting Windows Volume shadow copies? - Vssadmin delete shadows

This relates to troublshooting VSS problems when backing up with a 3rd party software.

There isn't any risk of deleting shadow copies. Infact deleting orphaned Volume shadow copy i necessary from time to time for several reasons like defect backup software which don't cleanup correctly, backup software may crash, system restore failures, and lot more.

So, triggering Vssadmin delete shadows will fix your backup issues.
