Bitlocker recovery key on Windows 2016 server

I need to know where to find or generate the bitlocker recovery key for Windows 2016 Server. I just installed bitlocker on the server, but it did not prompt me to generate a key like Windows 10 BL does. Where can I find this on the server?

open an elevated command prompt and launch
manage-bde -protectors -get c:
There it is.

I did this and it says "no key protectors found".  Where and when does it create this in 2016?  In Win 10 it's very clear in asking where to save the key, but it didn't do anything like that in 2016.
NO key protectors? Can't be. What does
manage-bde -status c:
say?
Ah, wait. You just installed bitlocker... you haven't encrypted yet, that's all.
Right click your drive and select "Turn on bitlocker".
Ok, that helps. It tells me it doesn't have TPM, so I'm going to check the bios and see if it's an option.
If your hardware does not have one, name your server model or better your mainboard name and I will look up if it can be equipped with one.
It's a Dell Poweredge R430. The system documentation says it's "384-bbmw: poweredge r430/r530 motherboard d MLK"
