Removing ADS from a server with missing Operation master server

Hello, I had a SBS2008 server with a windows 2008 server as a dc in that domain. Operation master SBS server crashed.  I want to take out the second DC from this dead doamin but it is looking for the operation master and dcpromo.exe wont let me take it out of the DC list. How can take it out of ths domain controller without formatting the server.

Thank you

So you're going to complicate the network management by running a workgroup? OUCH.

Run DCPROMO /FORCEREMOVAL and it should force demote the server.

so you have one 2008 ADC still alive?

In that case seize FSMO roles on 2008 DC and then cleanup metadata for SBS DC

note that after you seize roles on 2008 DC, do not bring dead sbs 2008 server online ever

Hi Mahesh, Thank you for a quick response
I had a SBS 2008 server. I noticed that it was going to die soon. So i brought in another Regular 2008 Std. R2 server and made it part of the domain by using DCPROMO. Transferred the data off the main SBS server as well.   the SBS server died and I relied on the backup server till bought a new server.  Now i just put in a new server as a workgroup server. Now i want to remove ADS from the server I brought in so I can use it somewhere else. Its my server.

Thank you
