"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Microsoft says:

"When you enable BitLocker, you can create a recovery password (48 characters) and a recovery file. If you saved the recovery file somewhere, you can still decrypt. Else you can only obtain the recovery password from the system while the OS has access to the encrypted volume.

If you lost the recovery password and are unable to access the disk at this moment, you're lost. Microsoft or HP have no options to recover your data."

If you expected someone to be able to tell you what your key was or otherwise figure it out, why did you bother encrypting it?

Once it's encrypted, that's it - You could spend a few thousand years trying to guess it, but no one is going to be able to tell you what the key is but you... if you find it.

Your only other option is to wait a few years to decades.  No encryption is forever.  At some point someone will crack it.  It could be 50 years from now, but it will happen... just takes time and computing power.
