If the auto-arrange was enabled the icons would always be automatically arranged; which is not the case.

A client's desktop icons keep getting 'rearranged' when the connection to the server is lost<br />

His whole Windows profile is stored on a Synology NAS<br />
<br />
When the Server is rebooted then the user knows that he is going to have to rearrange the icons on his desktop once again<br />

Is there anyway for the local Windows to 'remember how the user's desktop is arranged ?<br />
