I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

writing to the attribute is not a problem.   I am searching to determine the maximum length of data I can populate into the field

Hi,

you can use code below to check what are  the limits fordifferent user attributes in AD (taken from https://www.adamtheautomator.com/find-max-length-active-directory-attribute/)
$schema =[DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectory.ActiveDirectorySchema]::GetCurrentSchema()
## I'm looking for user attributes and the property I'm looking for is an optional attribute
## The rangeUpper attribute is what tells us the max length of what can go into that particular attribute
$schema.FindClass('user').optionalproperties | select name,rangeupper

Open in new window

For extensionAttribute12 it is 2048 characters.
