Excel VALUE error multiplying dollar amounts by quantity issued

Hi Experts
I am flummoxed by a simple calculation in Excel that I cannot get to work through formatting or any other means

I have attached the sheet and highlighted the cell in question in yellow in K85

I cannot get the cell to simply multiply the dollar amount in Column J by the value in Column D without coming up with a VALUE error?

I understand this is very primitive however I cannot seem to fathom why this is happening?

Any help you have would be much appreciated

Hi,

Some of your numbers data type is text, this happen allot if data is exported from a system. Try =TYPE(J85) - it will return 2 which means J85 content is text. To overcome this issue you can use this function =VALUE(J85)*D85

The values in J85:J98 are actually text.

Select the range, press CTRL+H and do a find/replace for $ and blank and it should fix things, though you might have to re-apply the currency format to the range.
