Crystal 2013 add group number to a field

Crystal 2013, this one I'm just drawing blanks on today,

I have a field (customer) it is a number and I need to burst these reports but the software wants to strip out duplicates  because of my grouping.  So if i could add Groupnumber to the customer number that should allow me to burst based on this  generated number..that's my thought.  I tried {customer}+Groupnumber but get a string error so my thought was I've got the syntax wrong or just brain dead today .

Crystal doesn't strip out duplicates unless you tell it to.  What do you mean it strips out duplicates?

Is the Customer field a number or a string?

If it is a number you don't want to add to it, you would be better off converting it to a string then appending the group number.

Group Number is a number so I suspect the Customer field is really a string.

I don't know why your formula didn't work but try it this way

{CustomerFIeld+ '-'+ CStr(GroupNumber,0,'')

Thanks for your reply, actually what I was trying to say was I realize crystal isn't stripping out the dups, however my bursting software does. So I have a formula to pass the customer number for the bursting software to work, in this case I'm using the customer number which normally works fine until this year we have duplicate needs..aka customer has same cust# but two diff in order to fake the bursting software I was trying to find a way to add a digit to the resulting formula ..just so it keeps the cust# so it can be sorted.

Your formula results in "group specified on a non recurring field".
How about this

Put the Customer Number together with the Location ID

So glad you said what you was right in front of me the whole time, I had forgot when I built the list I added a Key number in the database and was able to use that to create a unique number so it burst just as I needed.   Thanks a lot!   Sometimes just talking to someone about a problem turns the proverbial lights on.
Agree.  I can't count the number of times I have sat down to explain the issue to someone and the light comes on as I explain it to them.

glad you got it sorted out
