Tivoli problem

Hello,

I have  a problem with my TSM backup (TIVOLI)

I receive a message that the Library is not accessible.

- the library is online

- The drives and paths are online, but the drives status is unknown

- Trying to update for example  the drive 2, I receive the error that the drive_2 of the library LIB_0 is not accessible.

- When  I restarted the Library and the tivoli server using the best practices. the drives status become unloaded for 2 drives and loaded for the other 2.

- But after 5 min, I got the same problem.

I use IBM T3320 and tivoli is version 7

Thank you for your help

Sounds like a library problem rather than Trivoli.

Use the library's webpage to view the status of the library and drives and use that to do a few cartridge moves. Chances are you've got a dropped tape floating about in it, it's easy enough* to manually remove the cartridges and get your arm in to sort it out mechanically.

*If you've got a helper to press the manual ejectwith a paperclip through the holes in the bottom tape drive sled, freaking hard to do this on your own if it's racked.

BTW, it's TS3320, not T3320.

Thank you for your reply

I tried to move the tape through the the tape web interface.

I receive the error: the library is busy and just after that the drives goes offline

I put them back online But still the same issue

Any idea

Physical library problem, you need hands on site.  Probably a cartridge with a mis-located leader pin needs taking out.

I think you are right, the output of q drive f=d shows the drives unavailable and the status  unknown but i see a volume in the drive

That's consistent with a jammed cartridge in a BDT clone,

But what I don't understand, that the problem is with 4 drives at the same time

Tomorrow, I will place a service call

Thank you

There's four drives being fed by one robotic arm so if the arm gets jammed all four get the wrong tapes put in them.

Simo, have you tried rebooting the tape library?

-You can try to reboot from the GUI, but sometimes it gets stuck and a power off is needed (by pressing the power off button for at least 5 seconds).

-When the library comes back on, sometimes is capable of pushing the tape off into the I/O Slots, it it's not, then it's just wait for the Field Service Engineer to dismount the unit and retrieve the tape, maybe even changing the drive involved if the tape is still inside.

-More than likely, the tape involved will have to be destroyed from TSM.

-Also, on this tape libraries, one of the drives has the control path, and if that drive gets faulty (it's usually the first drive), the rest of the drives give up working. You can however change the control path to another drive, and you might bypass the problem until the faulty drive get replaced.
