Office 2016 is installed, but attempting to open a .xlsx file gives error: This action is only valid for products that are currently installed

Hi Experts,

I've had Office 2010 installed for a long time.
About a week ago I installed  Office 2016.

Today I uninstalled Office 2010.

Since then I cannot open any Excel files by clicking on files with extension .xlsx

I get an error message similar to this:

D:\Dropbox\Dropbox\_Mincad\Admin\MailChimp\lmports - Adhoc or CPEE lists\MailChimp
Import Template - Ad Hoc - To Be Added.xlsx
This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.

The File association for .xlsx files points to Excel 2016:

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I just solved somewhat similar problem for a client this evening.

Open Control Panel, Programs and Features, click on Office and do a Repair. Select Full Repair.

See if that fixes the issue for you.
