is it okay to use the default mysql system DB for application tables?

I had a communication issue with a developer and he used the default mysql DB that comes wtih mysql...  This is typically a system DB...  Is it okay to place tables in here to use with our application?  Or.. Do we need to go ahead and create a new schema / DB and move the tables?

I suppose there's nothing technically wrong with using the default DB, but I certainly wouldn't advise it. Keep your application data in it's own DB - makes security more robust (specific users can have access to your data, rather than having to give your app users root access). It will also make any backups or migrations a whole lot easier.

Personally, I'd recommend you move them to their own DB.

I misunderstood his question.  I can't believe he did this...  This is silly.

Thanks

You might want to consider a different developer :)
