I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Most Microsoft password arrangements have a hint to recall the password. Make sure the hint is meaningful to your friend.

Then suggest they change the password. This should work, but it not, change back.

Hi rgb192,

What do I tell my skype friend?
Tell your friend his account has been hacked or his machine has been infected. Tell him to run a full scan of his devices using Antivirus (https://www.eset.com/us/home/online-scanner/) and Antimalware (www.malwarebytes.com)

change your password?
Have your friend reset his password. Provided that it is a machine infection, their email address associated may not have been changed. Once they are able to change their password (https://a.login.skype.com/diagnostics) have them enable 2FA: https://www.turnon2fa.com/tutorials/how-to-turn-on-2fa-for-skype/. Send them this link as well to better secure their account: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34649/protecting-your-online-safety-security-and-privacy

what if password is already changed and skype friend can not get inside account.
Again, initiate a reset password and see above.

friend changed their password

I am not sure if friend has a bad password as a new password that can be easily guessed

If machine is infected; then attacker does not need password because attacker has access to machine?

If their machine was badly infected, then the only practical relief is to backup, format, and reinstall Windows. You should apprise them of this possibility and wait a bit to see if the problem recurs.
