ASA 5506X: Change from FTD to ASA IOS

We need to re-image a 5506 from Firepower Threat Defense to ASA IOS.

In ROMMON, how can I ensure that I have a stable connection between the ASA and the TFTP server to avoid packet loss?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

TFTP stands for Trivial File Transfer Protocol. Unlike FTP, TFTP is over UDP, and cannot cope with packets going missing. For this reason, when reloading a 5506, usual practice would be to set up a TFTP server on a laptop, and connect directly to it with a CAT5 cable. No packets are likely to go missing that way. I use SolarWinds TFTP server, it is free, simple to install, runs on almost any Windows box, and does the job.

When loading a new boot image lie this onto a 5506, the system does a check of the image file to ensure it is valid before writing it to non volatile ram. In the event of missing packets, it will just fail; an image with bits missing will be rejected.

I am guessing you already have found the instructions on how to re-image, but here they are anyway:
