Will WiFi improve my voice phone quality?

Making phone calls with the Internet

I live in a bad cell area and have no land line.'

How do I use my high speed internet to make phone calls? When I connect my iPhone 7 to my wireless router, will the phone quality improve?

Is there a way to measure the connection quality?

Thanks

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

With bad cell service, half the time you can't even hear the other party.

With VoIP, the call quality is nearly equal to good cellular/landline service.

To do this though, you'll need to use a VoIP phone calling app, like Google Voice or Skype for example. Your iPhone doesn't have the ability to transmit VoIP calls by default.

So, since I have a noise cancelling Bose headset, my better option is to use my MacBook, right?

If I used Skype in this way, I'd need to start purchasing minutes from Skype, true?

Yeah, your Macbook and iPhone would theoretically provide the exact same performance. If it's easier to make the calls from your Macbook, then use that.

Yeah, Skype charges. Meanwhile Google Voice is free.
