Problem connecting outlook 2016 clients to new exchange 2016 standard server

I have set up an Exchange 2016 Standard server which is currently running in tandem with an existing 2010 exchange server. All pre-requisites were fulfilled. This is an enterprise active directory domain environment.
The 2016 server can send and receive. I migrated an administrator mailbox to 2016 from 2010 and can connect through owa in a browser send and receive work.
I can browse to owa internally but auto discover public dns and local dns point to 2010 still so no external access (due to virtual directory pathing..possibly or a cert problem). When I browse to owa from a domain machine (local to the servers) and log into the administrator account it redirects me to the 2016 server and logs in.

My problem is in trying to connect outlook 2016 running on windows 10 machines. All are fully patched and office/outlook is fully patched. outlook just crashes when trying to create the profile. I have researched for a month now and none of the solutions are working for me. recycle apppool, uninstall reinstall and patch, run repairs etc....
I manually went through the schema in adds all is configured correctly as far as I can tell even the virtual directories (except external access) etc ....
Any assistance would be graciously accepted as the end goal for my client is to shutdown the 2010 exchange server and run solely on the 2016 exchange server.

What is the SCP on your exchange 2016 server. that is what outlook will use to connect to Exchange internally. In Exchange 2016, you must configure URL for SCP from Exchange Management Shell (EMS). To view the SCP url type the following:

Get-ClientAccessService | fl AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri

The url should look something like this:

 https://autodiscover.domain.com/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml

If you didn't change this it will have the actual server name and that will need to be changed. Also there will need to be an internal DNS A record pointing to the exchange 2016 server with the first part of the url for example DNS A record should show some thing like
autodiscover.domain.com pointing to your exchange 2016 server. It doesn't have to be auotdiscover but that's the most common name for the SCP.

The SCP URL is accurate https://autodiscover.mydomain.org/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

Local DNS has an autodiscover record pinting at he 2010 do I need one to point at the 2016 as well?

THank you tim for your reply

It should only point to your exchange 2016. exchange 2016 will proxy the exchange 2010 connections.

Ok. you will have to wait for AD replication in order to see the change. you can also create a local host file entry to test first if this  is a business production environment. if not a big deal just change DNS allow AD replication and you should be good.

ping your autodiscover.mydomain.org and let me know if it resolves to the 2016 IP or is it still 2010. if still 2010 you have to wait for AD replication.

you should be able to access ecp, by the following
https://servername/ecp

is the account you are using to access ECP still an Exchange 2010 Mailbox. if it is, that is why it keeps pushing you back to OWA for 2010. you need to migrate the accounts mailbox to 2016 and that will resolve that issue.

The ECP error is correct and that isn't OWA. it's a bit deceptive since OWA is in the browser. This is ECP though. what happens when you enter your credentials? also instead of local host type the actual exchange 2016 server name and test.

that error looks like chrome. that is fine, the reason for the error is because the server name or localhost isn't in the certificate. it's ok to proceed. that is the expected result.

can you confirm NTLM is enabled on the Exchange 2016 servers. Log onto the ECP > servers > double click 2016 server > outlook anywhere.
Verify that NTLM is enabled and the external host name and internal host name should not be the actual server name but your exchange name space you are using like mail.domain.com or something of that nature.

In regards to the firewall I would go into the advanced settings and disable the domain profile, private profile and public profile. Generally your company firewall controls the traffic, so these settings are needed in my opinion. These settings are disabled in our entire environment.
