Need help converting a VM guest into another VM guest, to reduce disk size.

We are needing to reduce the hard disk of a VM guest from 400G down to 100G.  The only way this is possible, we understand, is to use the Standalone Converter.  We are not sure whether the source VM needs to be on or off for the procedure, and how to specify the "source", as far as what category to select.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

The supported method is to use VMware Converter.

It's recommended to install Converter on the VM to be converted when it's Power ON, and then you select this Convert Machine > This local machine!

if you not used Converter before, please see my EE Articles
