Datastore creation fails on HGST HE8 drive in vSphere 6.0.0

Hi,

Am configuring a new Supermicro server with vSphere 6.0.0, 7504637 on it.  Added a HGST HE8 HUH728080ALE604 drive and when I tried to add it as a datastore, I got back:

Call "HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreCreateOptions" for object "datastoreSystem-29078" on vCenter Server " <vcenter server url>" failed.

Is this drive not supported natively in vSphere?  If not are there any known workarounds?

Thanks!

has the drive never been used before ?

e.g. new out of the wrapper, or does it have a previous file system ?

It had been part of a RAID array on an LSI HBA.

You will need to blank the disk. - https://dban.org/

ESXi is having difficulties, creating a partition, because of the old data. (partition)

or you can use partedUtil in ESXi at the command line. (if you do use this tool, remember to reboot ESXi)

Andrew,

How do I tie the HUH devices to the partitions in the below example?
