Full details about EMET 5.5

Today for the first time ever on this Windows 7 system which I have head for close to two years, upon boot lower right was an icon I had never seen before. I clicked it and EMET 5.5 wanted Windows permission to open. I said no and continued on as normal. I just read a definition of it so should I have accepted it? And the on screen message said the program was on my hard drive.
Thanks.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

EMET is a valid Microsoft Enhanced Mitigation Tool. I used it on Windows 7. It has been superseded by Windows 10 and you can see the EMET framework in Windows 10. It is no longer being developed.

Here are some sample EMET settings.

John:
So I should have allowed the program to be opened and then left all settings the same?
Why did it want to open?
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
Hard to say. It is no longer in support, so if you have not used it and used your own newer antivrus, you may be better to uninstall it. It uninstalls cleanly using Programs and Features and (as I noted) not supported anyway. It was 2 years ago.
