"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In most cases for file transfer you need an FTP client of some kind. You also need to be able to login to the site, if there is security involved.

One thing you can use is an app called PuTTy that lets you set destination folders, etc. It's kind of tedious but it will work.

Can you give more info? A basic example using WebClient or did you want something low-level?
private void buttonDownloadFile_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    string url = @"http://www.thereforesystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/image35.png";
    // Create an instance of WebClient
    WebClient client = new WebClient();
    // Hookup DownloadFileCompleted Event
    client.DownloadFileCompleted +=    new AsyncCompletedEventHandler(client_DownloadFileCompleted);

    // Start the download and copy the file to c:\temp
    client.DownloadFileAsync(new Uri(url), @"c:\temp\image35.png");
 }
