Recommendations for an Azure Lab environment

We would like to build a lab environment for testing and educating ourselves with Azure Active Directory.  I have a few questions, and I'm seeking some recommendations on how to proceed.  We want to learn the building blocks for a successful deployment.

•I will be building an Active Directory Domain Controller on premises first.  Is there a naming convention I should use for the context.  For instance, Domain.ORG, or Domain.local.
•Should this match the actual Internet domain that we intend to use, or should it be independent of it.
•Could you steer me to any recommended documentation or steps to correctly build the environment?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You'll run into a variety of naming conventions in the field if you are a consultant  and each requires understanding how it integrated with Azure AD and has unique considerations.

If you are not consulting and are doing this strictly for an internal deployment then do what you plan on doing in production. Personally I use a subdomain of a primary external dom aim for ADDS.
