4 switch cisco stack - divided into 2 smaller stacks. How does one go about doing that?

Hi EE,

I have a Cisco stack containing 4 cisco switches. The Firm have decided to upgrade one of the smaller datacenters. So the stack needs to be divided into 2 smaller stacks containing 2 switches each.

(It is Out of Band, meaning a restart is not a problem).

I have an IP for the new stack.
I have a rack available with everything ready.

So what is the "Best practice" or best way to go about doing that?

You will probably need an extra stack cable when you split them though :)

Basically what I did was, I turned off switch 3 and 4.
Removed them from the stack. Cabled switch 1 and 2 with the existing stack cable.

Reset switch 3 and 4. Set up the cables and provisioned the now stack master as number 12 (gives med space for some changes in the future) and made sure they could see each other stack wise.

Configured the new stack with an IP, hostname, fiber and so forth.

Done, were easy enough ...
