Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10

Windows 10 MessageHi,

 I have a PC with Windows 7 Pro.  I was try to perform Windows 10 Upgrade via  "Upgrading to Windows 10 for Users of Assistive Technologies", but it says that the offer has expired as of 12/31/2017. Is there any other way to "Free Upgrade to Windows 10" anymore?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yu can still do it with any Win10 ISO. If you "may" still do it is another question.

I think that as long as you have a valid Windows key from Win7 you can use that legally to register a Win10 install in it's place.  You should be able to download install media from here, and during installation use your existing Win7 key.

Yes you have to pay. If you decide to get a Windows license, back up your machine and do a fresh install of Windows 10. Windows 7 was a poor candidate for upgrading because of old drivers and incompatible software

With a valid windows 7 key you install windows 10 from scratch

At this point, though, the asker must pay for the license,

This question was asked before. It ended in a long discussion if what was technically possible (using a win10 setup with a win7 key and activate it) was legal. I dismonitored that discussion, because it never ended.

@McKnife
I don't understand what you are trying to say.
Is it possible to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 FOR FREE at this point in time? If so, How?
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
Not for free now - too late.
McKnifeCommented:
What do you misunderstand? Yes, you start win10 setup and upgrade, or even install win10 from scratch using your win10 key - it will activate alright.
Possible: yes!
Legal? I don't know. Why would it be possible as easy if MS did not want it?

I will not continue this debate, you have to judge it for yourself.

Feels like it's still allowed, this doc is only a month old...

That document says what path you can go, but not whether it's legal using the old (win7-) key, Bill.

Correction on my previous comment - of course I wanted to write "win7 key", not "win10 key".

@Bill
Can you further explain how free Windows 10 upgrade (from Windows 7) is possible?
McKnifeCommented:
Start win10 setup within win7, that's all. The setup is acquired by downloading the media creation tool.
Bill PrewIT / Software Engineering ConsultantCommented:
Follow the "Provide a Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 Key" section here, and use your existing Windows 7+ activation code.

@Bill,

 Let me try that. I will post the result later.

After years of inactivity, I forgot how annoying EE can be for answering the correct question. This person can't take the right answer and is looking to do something illegal. If you were looking for a way to do this illegally you should have just asked on some other forum that will help you do that.

Windows 10 Upgrade Tool DownloadedWindows 10 Update Assistant
Update:
I learned two things:

(1) On windows 7 PC, I installed Windows 10 from Windows 10 CD. When the setup was complete, Windows 10 was already activated. So I think What @McKnife said was true. You can just install Windows 10 from the CD/scratch on Windows 7 PC.

(2) Since I was told that free upgrade to Windows 10 was OVER by participating EE experts, I purchased an Ebay item "Windows 10 Upgrade from Windows 7/8" thinking that the seller was going to send me some type of Windows 10 upgrade activation key along with some kind of anytime upgrade path/link. Instead I received a download link. I clicked the link and downloaded "Win 10 Upgrade tool.exe" 5,632KB. When I ran this, I saw "Upgrade to Windows 10" on "Windows 10 Update Assistant" window. I proceeded with installation and successfully upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10.
So based on this particular experience, FREE upgrade still exist. I really did not have to pay the Ebay seller.

"You were sold a link to a publicly available ms tool without a key?" --> It appears to be. I remember that screen vividly because I have upgrade so many Windows 7 PCs to Windows 10 last year. There were 2 path to free W10 upgrade:
(1) Fall Creator Update and (2) thru Assisted technology
Whenever I chose one of those two options (maybe 2nd option_, I remember seeing this posted screen.

If you got no key, then that seller should be warned and has to refund the money. (ok, we would have to see the article description for this)

"If you got no key, then that seller should be warned and has to refund the money" --> Well, lucky me. The seller is still selling the same item that I purchased.

99.7% positive feedback...LOL!
Ok, they don't advertise keys, but aspects like "activation for life" would usually be only true for a retail license since that can be installed where you want during your life.
