desktop icons are large

Have a computer where some of the desktop icons are really big and some are small.  Not sure how the user did this.  Any way to fix it?  See screenshot.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It looks like all of them are large.  There's just a difference in some of the pic details that appear not to expand to the same boarder as some of the Windows icons.  The shortcut arrows are also all the same size along with the spacing between each of the icons.

They're not mixed between large and normal...

Also to change it just right click on the desktop, select "View", and change the icon size.

You may also wish to change the Windows theme to a simpler theme

If you have a Wheel Mouse (A mouse with a wheel in between the two buttons)

You can also click anywhere on your desktop, hold down your control key and move your mouse wheel
[ Forward to Enlarge ] [ Towards you to make smaller ] until the icons are at the desired size.

Not sure how the user did this.

As a side note, the method I've just described can often also be the cause of the problem :)

Hope that's helpful.

the (apparently ) smaller ones look like shortcuts - not program icons

keep pressing CTRL and use the mouse wheel up/down to make the icons smaller / larger. or on the desktop right click - view - medium icons

As for why... That is because application developers can supply difference sized icons 16x16, 24x24, 32x32, 48x48, 256x256 and if the application didn't include one for the size required, the largest available is used. That looks like 256x256 and the others 48x48
