Redirect onedrive/box.dropbox to network folder

We are trying to find out how to redirect Onedrive/Box/Dropbox to a shared network folder. We've done some research and if it's possible it seems to be done with a lot of "hacks" to make it work.

Has anyone done this successfully?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

why not just install dropbox/onedrive on the server?
just want to say, these technology are duplicate a copy from cloud.

is there really a good business case to put them into shared folder?

we have several users who share an account. the account is about 80GB. currently the VDI's I give them are only 100GB and they are running out of space. I'm also running out of space on my SAN so i cant add more HDD space to their VDI's.

I was hoping I could find a way to put these on a share drive where i know i have several TB's.

Okay, if it is using onedrive, you can enable onedrive file on demand. in reality, not every file is required, only those who needed.

All of this is forcing you to perform odd workarounds...its seems apparent you need more storage. Workarounds are not solutions and when used in place of them there are many sacrifices and sometime degradations.

Tell me all about it Blue Street Tech, tell me all about it. this was originally supposed to be 5 VDI's that another dept then hijacked and now its up to almost 30. WAAAY beyond the original scope that we were told. It's times like this i wish i would have started mining bitcoin in 2010. One can dream.....

anyhoo, yes we are going to be changing out our whole virtual infrastructure (possibly with nutanix) with plenty of space and possibly citrix as the VDI solution, but until then im just trying to find out a way to keep my folks working. bandaides until then.

Jian,
Thank you for the onedrive info. I didnt know they had this. I saw for box they have box drive which looks similiar. I will check it out.

Just a quick question if you know the answer. The Files on Demand for onedrive seems to only be available for windows 10 creators update, is that correct?

Blue Street TechLast KnightCommented:
Yes, OneDrive Files On-Demand requires Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 16299.15 or later) and OneDrive build 17.3.7064.1005 or later (get the latest download here). Why don’t I see the Files On-Demand options in OneDrive settings? Files On-Demand might not be compatible with some third-party antivirus solutions.
