Troubleshooting Using WebLogs

In trying to troubleshoot why we are having performance issues on our webserver, we pulled the web log files and I found several instances of cs-method = OPTIONS and our server
returned a sc-status of 405.

Can someone explain what OPTIONS means and the 405 response?

The OPTIONS method represents a request for information about the communication options available on the request/response chain identified by the Request-URI. This method allows the client to determine the options and/or requirements associated with a resource, or the capabilities of a server, without implying a resource action or initiating a resource retrieval.

405 errors are caused when an HTTP method is not allowed by a web server for a requested URL. This condition is often seen when a particular handler has been defined for a specific verb, and that handler is overriding the handler that you expect to process the request
