Password change - Vcenter and SRM

Good afternoon,

I have a client that wants to change the access password of his Vcenter Server and the contignecia, in both vcenter he has SRM configured, and to authenticate in the SRM he uses the user administrator@vsphere.local, along with his password.

When changing the access password to the Vcenter, would it also change automatically in the SRM?

You can run a script to reset it, here is the description

i have had to do this before straightforward, support will also help

Yes the password for SRM also changes, you can give AD accounts SRM permission in VMware, it is not good practice to use only this administrator@vsphere.local account.

Good Morning,

Reviewing the links referenced by you, I was reviewing and has several procedures to change the password of the Site Recovery Manager, the version that I am using the SRM is 5.8

According to one of the links, it indicates that for versions 5.xxx, I must use the SRM installer and the Modify option, to change the desired parameters, including the password.

For version 1.xxx, it indicates that I must enter the server where I have installed the SRM, and use a command prompt, however as it is not the version I use, this option would be discarded.

What the client tells me and what he really wants to do is change the password of the Vcenter Server, at the time this password change was made, but at the time of testing the SRM, it did not work as the password changed in its Site Principal, motivated that also uses the user administrator@vsphere.local and had to put the previous password in the Vcenter again and the SRM if it managed to work.

Another idea that I am thinking about is to change the password of the Vcenter of Production (Site Principal) and the Vcenter of Contigencia (Site Alterno) and to place the same password to the two Vcenters, since at the moment that wants to authenticate me in the SRM, both sites have the same password, since the user administrator@vsphere.local is used.

Does my idea make sense or not?

Stay tuned to your comments..

Good Morning,

I made the password change in both Vcenter, but at the moment of entering and authenticating in the SRM, it indicates an incorrect username and password.

I proceeded to enter the Windows server where they have installed the SRM of the main site, indicated modify the installation and complete the following parameters.

I have already completed all the parameters, but I have not yet installed it, I would like to know if when entering the new vcenter password in the srm modification configurations, once the installation completes, the SRM will work correctly?

Additionally enter the server with the service user account of the srm to make the modification in the printer you can view it.

Annex the printer of what has been done, I have not yet finished, I await your advice and suggestions.

It is important that you mention that the user of the srm service has permissions as a local administrator, this is the user with whom I am logged on the server, annex checking printer. I want to validate if this is the correct configuration, since if so, I must do it in the other servers where the srm service is installed.

Good afternoon,

I proceeded to make the change of the SRM password in the Main and Alternate Site, it no longer indicates an authentication error when entering the SRM through the Web Client, but the following warning appears:

Not Connected to SRM server

Similarly, restart the services of the SRM and the Warning keeps appearing, I can see the interface, but I can not run a test recovery plan, which may be happening?

The servers configured with the SRM respond to ping from the Vcenter server and vice versa. And both main and alternate sites also respond to ping between them and vice versa.

Attached screen printer for your evaluation and help please

Good afternoon,

I had to reconfigure both Sites, main and alternate, and place the new password and both SRMs work correctly. Thank you so much.

Tomorrow I will apply the same configuration to the other servers.

Good Morning,

Currently I try to change the password of the SRM version 5.8, motivated that we use the user administrator to enter both the Vcenter and the SRM, at the moment of modifying the installation of the SRM it indicates the following error:

A DataBase has error ocurred.

And then it tells me the following error with the DSN system: - See image.

I go to the odbc to validate the connection and I do a conection test and it is satisfactory. In addition, the service is down, and I have the service user with whom I should start and it does not raise, I am also logged into the server with the service user.

It should be noted that the service was up all the time, I had problems with the service, because I had to repair the installation and now it does not lift the service.

Validating the log tells me that it does not detect the connection to the database. - View image.

Your support with this case. Regards...

I am applying this change in the other two sites, since in the two previous sites I made the change and it did not give me any problem.

I think I should go to the server where the external database of the SRM is located and validate if the service user is authenticated against the database, I think that is the problem, if they have another suggestion I will gladly apply them.
