Can't print wirelessly but printer diagnostic page prints ok

Can't print wirelessly at home from HP Desktop, to HP OfficeJet Pro 6978. Problems started after upgrading to new Verizon FIOS router, with 2G and 5G networks. It took a while to get the printer working, but I got it working. But now after a week or so, it won't print, although today I printed several diagnostic pages from my PC. When printing from Notepad, it just says "Error Printing". Both the PC and the printer are on the same 2G network.

I just noticed that the Diagnostic pages kind of doesn't go through the printer software. I say that because in my printer queue, there's a document with status "Error - Printing", but even with that the Printer Diagnostics page slipped on by and printed without actually going to the printer queue.

But I can print from a MacBook Pro, no issues, even though in my Printer queue there's still a document in error.

Almost for sure, this was caused by the printer being set up as DHCP and it changed its addressing. Change the Printer to Static Addressing.  Printer control panel, Settings, Network.

You may need to Repair or Reinstall the Printer. Go to Printer Preferences, Port tab. If the Port is WSD, rebooting everything including the printer may fix it.

re-booting didn't work, but I can still print from MacBook Pro, and still can print a diagnostic page.

I don' see the Port thing.

Layman's assessment - the MacBook Pro prints straight to the printer (peer to peer). My HP Desktop prints through the router.

When I open the printer properties, and then "See what's printing", their is a document in error. But the diagnostic page and the MacBook Pro both print fine. So this "see what's printing" dialogue box is only my PC's printer, not the printer itself which is visible to the network?

Repair the printer driver(Control Panel, Programs and Features) . See if that helps. This is how I proceed in these situations
