Quicken help

I am about to load a new version of Quicken on this users laptop. He had another version installed long ago on his old laptop. How can I get all his information to copy over to his new copy? I am sure the old version is more than a few years old so not sure how this is moved to his new copy?

The Quicken Data file is a QDF file. Make a secure backup of this and then try to simply open in the new version of Quicken. If your friend is lucky, it will open. Otherwise he may need to start again or engage Quicken Support to convert the file. Here is assistance for you. I use QuickBooks and just moved along year by year

John, to add to this in case I missed something. This is a brand new install of Quicken on a new laptop. The data file you suggested (QDF) is the file I take off the old laptop and load it to the new one? Will it overwrite or should I just replace it wit this after maybe rename the old file by a letter?

So long as you keep a backup of the files yes overwrite and test

Thanks. I have a full back up of the files on a USE drive so I will just take a copy from that. I will install the Quicken first then replace the QDF file if this is correct? Since nothing is yet in the QDF file yet there will be nothing to overwrite. His copy is older and he has a Google-Mail account so will this affect that file on Google-Drive as well. Not sure that data is on the Google-Drive but I have that Google sync replicating the documents up to it. Again, not sure what Quicken files are up on the Google-Drive since Quicken has its own files and not part of the documents folder? If all this is correct, I am on the way to fix this. This is one of the issues that the priest had and I ended up going out and bought him a copy of Quicken from Sams club. The Quicken  tech support guy wanted over $200 to fix his corrupt application of Quicken. The corruption was me trying to copy from his old laptop the entire folder. I can tell you Quicken must have when it loads and knows the serial number of the laptop so you cannot copy it over to another laptop. I thought I was done with him but he wanted to use Quicken on another laptop. Just never ends when things are free. Thank the stars I belong to Experts-Exchange.

Thanks for the update. I think your overall processes are correct. Unless there is (for some reason) newer data on Google Drive, I would ignore that.
