An problem of importation

Hello

I have to use for the very first time an Xen-server for an project but every time I tried to import an ovf file I get the message :

"Host CPU features reduced","The CPU feature level on host 'xen-server' has been reduced.","xen-server","Feb 14, 2018 9:10 AM",""
I don't get it
The Xen-server is installed on a computer with an Xeon processor over 16 Go of ram with 1 To of hard drive space so I don't understand I've update the Xen OS but the problem stays.
I've spend hours to search for the answer so if someone can please help it'll be great

Best regards.

Hi,

This issue is due to a couple of items that are identified.  It involves Spectre patches and how XAPI identifies additional CPUID features and also an issue  with when the alert should be raised.

From what I understand the issue is only cosmetic there is no functional impact.

Cheers

Questions:
  • What version of XenServer are you running & is it patched to current?
  • How old is the .ovf that you are importing?
  • Does it actually work after import?

If the ovf is older (more than 3 years, or was designed for prior rev of XS), it's likely that the .ovf is only capable of older functions with the CPU - therefore the Xen Hypervisor is "flagging" that it is providing a reduced instruction set to that VM.  This would fit if the .ovf/vm is able to run after you import.
If it is able to run, I would update the XenServer Tools on the VM - that might resolve the CPU mismatch.

Hope this helps,
Scooter
