learning angular js

I want to start learning Angular JS. Looking at the tutorials there are several different ways to set up the environment, which uses gulp, bower and many more
what is the simplest way to  get started with, to start learning this framework.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

First of all - do you specifically want to use Angular JS?

Angular comes in two flavours
AngularJS - version 1.x - the older version of Angular
Angular - the new version 2,4 and 5

The two are completely different in how they work. AngularJS works by including the AngularJS lib in your page and then coding in JavaScript.

Angular is Typescript based - which means you would need to transpile it before publishing it to your domain.

The best tools for Angular is to use the Angular CLI. This in combination with Node.js and Microsoft Code give you the best and easiest options for building Angular applications.

@Julian - thanks. Yes I need to learn Angular JS for supporting an old project. can you give me few steps on how to get started with
Angular CLI.

Julian HansenCommented:
Angular CLI is for Angular 2+

AngularJS is plain JavaScript - there was not (to my knowledge) an equivalent to Angular CLI - there were various scaffolding tools that you could use but there was not a standard.

You say you are supporting an old project - do you know what was used for that project?

@Julian - yes, the old project was in Angular JS , started couple of years ago. the contractor who did it, is not longer here. so i have to learn it and support it. I think he was using scaffolding tools like you mentioned - grunt or something similar.

Ok but I can't guess what they were - you should be able to edit the files directly - but if there was a build process then that would depend on what tools he selected.

Are there any .json files (or other . (dot) files) associated with the project and if so what are they?
