How to transfer file to ESXi 5.1 host using FTP? I've enabled "FTP Client" on the ESXi host but unable to communicate to the host via port 21.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You can transfer files in esxi using ssh client. Just login to your server using vshpere client and go configuration and then go to security profiles start ssh service and from the same page go to firewall then enable ssh client and ssh server then save and close.

Now you can transfer files using ssh using winscp or from other linux machines using scp.

I've logged in to the ESXi host via Putty through SSH. I have a Windows Host with the following IP and want to transfer an ISO file from the ESXi host to the Windows Server. What should be the command to do that considering the below information-

Source
Server Role - ESXi
Host Name - ESX1

Destination
Server Role - Windows 2012 Server
Host Name - SERVER1

File to copy - /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/ISO/win_2k8.iso

in widows machine install winscp... and login esxi with winscp with ip and credentials.

Once logged in navigate to /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/ISO/win_2k8.iso.

In winscp right side panel is windows server and left side panel is esxi.

Just navigate to /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/ISO/win_2k8.iso on right side of winscp and drag and drop the content to left side.

Hope this answers your question.
