HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 - Hard Drive

Hi,
We have a HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 with raid controller Smart Array P440ar which supports SATA and SAS
There are four 2.5" SATA hard drives attached. each two of them are configured with raid1.

The backplane has 8 bays, so I have another 4 bays to use.
My questions is can I use 2.5" SAS drives for the reset 4 bays. my understanding is the physical interface for SAS and SATA is different. I checked all the 8 intereface they all look the same.
Please advise.

Many Thanks
