I wear a lot of hats...

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the Javascript/PHP.

Personally I've developed a HTML5 app which works on iOS and Android and used the following Signature Pad which is probably similar to the one you're using.

What I did find however is that the rendering engine in Safari on iOS is a little different from Safari on OSX and other browsers like Chrome. On iOS while I could see the signature area, i couldn't write in it .. it turned out to be a CSS issue rather than HTML5 or JS.  I had to set the height/width of the signature input box element slightly differently from the default to get it to work on Safari on iOS but the Javascript code was fine.

I have used something similar but it is more current https://github.com/szimek/signature_pad  I don't remember issues on iOS devices.

You have some options for saving the data.  I ended up encrypting the base64 data and added that to a text field in my database.
