I've tried several solutions, but my favorite is PDFelement by Wondershare. Excellent OCR engine and allows you to edit PDF documents quite well.

To purchase a subscription for the Genuine Adobe products: Acrobat Pro DC or Acrobat Standard DC.

Both Standard and Pro will give you the ability to edit and write to a PDF, but Pro has more features.

A feature comparison chart between Acrobat Pro DC and Acrobat Standard DC is available on the linked site.

Hope that's helpful.

free pdf software let you read pdf files. PRO pdf software let you read and write.
for the PRO software, as andrew mentioned, there is Acrobat DC RPO (trial for 30 days https://acrobat.adobe.com/us/en/free-trial-download.html) and also there pdf foxit phantom PDF (free trial https://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/#Foxit-PhantomPDF-Standard/)

You can try LibreOffice: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/. It has support for PDF and is free of cost!

LibreOffice only supports the filling of pre-prepared PDF forms (as does the Free Adobe Reader software available from Adobe) You can also save LibreOffice files in PDF format.

LibreOffice does not offer any functionality to edit and/or write to pre-existing PDF's. An OCR engine is required for that purpose and that requires a commercial (Pro) solution. I know of no free alternatives that are worth their salt.

Hope that's helpful.

if the PDF is fill-able, any pdf reader will let you fill out a PDF.

Acrobat reader has the fill and sign function that allows you to place text boxes throughout a pdf and type into it. You only need a pro version if you want to create an editable form that can be filled. Depends on your needs to determine what product to use.

Do these allow me to save the information I put in the text fields. I have seen software that will allow me to fill out text fields but not to save.

yes you can save what you put in, you just might have to do a save as on some.
