Sharepoint List Email on submission

I have a sharepoint online list, where someone would fill it out selecting an appropriate case manager from the "people or groups" column type in Sharepoint. I then would like to have an email generated to that case manager and their supervisor automatically when the list item is submitted. I'm having trouble finding a way to automatically pull the AD manager data based on that case manager selection, and then generate an email.

Can you use SharePoint designer with SharePoint online?  You can use a SharePoint designer workflow to achieve this.  When an item is submitted, you can look for the case manger that was selected and create your generated email.

Is there a way to pull the manager info with a workflow also?

Not really - if you're on prem and have access to the profile - you might be able to get to the person's manager IF it's is populated in the profile - which is frequently is not.  Otherwise, you can build a separate list with all of the users and their manager and then lookup on that list - but usually those kind of lists don't get updated properly when people move around, leave, etc.
You could have the user enter their manager on a field - which is probably the most reliable.

IN a workflow - be sure to test a value to be non-blank before using in an email address - SP gets mad with null fields on emails in particular
