What should be considered before changing the IP address of a DC?

I want to change one of our DC's to a different IP.  Is that a problem?   It is a Global Catalog DC.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I generally don't advise it. But if it is just a DC then you can usually do so safely. The things to consider mostly revolve around DNS. If clients are using it. If there are trusts or stub zones elsewhere.

If other roles coexist in the same OSE then that changes considerably and the possibilities are too numerous to possibly cover.

Run DCDIAG and make sure the DC passes all the tests. Resolve any issues found before going ahead.

Operating System Environment.

In the age of virtualization, it's the best way to refer to a single OS installation. "server" and "box" are simply not precise enough anymore.

Note that the DC can also be a DNS server, so if that DNS address is used elsewhere, such as DHCP server, then the IP needs updting in the DHCP Server/Scope options and on any static IP configured servers/devices.

Thanks.  Already took that into consideration.  That was my biggest concern.
