How to delete thousands of old emails in the gmail All Mail folder?

The user has tens of thousands of past gmail messages.  They appear to be in "All Mail" folder in gmail.    Gmail will delete about 100 at a time.

Is there a way to delete a larger amount?

The  Mail  Application on the Mac keeps trying to synchronize them, which slows down the computer.

There is a tutorial here on mass deleting Gmail's.  They caution, and I would also, to take care lest you delete too much.

you can create a filter
1. go to one of the messages you want to delete
2. from more, click on filter messages like these
1.png3.leave the first box as is
2.png4. in the second box, select delete and the second box that says also apply filter
note: this will delete the existing messages and future coming messages from specific sender. you can create filters to delete message and then delete these filters later.

If you Gmail search for "older_than:1y", emails older than 1 year will be displayed.

You can also use m for months or d for days.

If you want to delete them all, click the Check all box, then click "Select all conversations that match this search," followed by the Delete button.
