Unable to send test email in TFS

I'm having trouble configuring my TFS server to properly send email alerts. When I attempt to send a test email from the TFS Administration Console I get the following error dialog:

Can anyone help me out?

Through what email server you are trying to send emails?
Russ SuterSenior Software DeveloperAuthor Commented:
It's a local SMTP relay that I set up. I know the relay works because I have TFS successfully sending alerts to it during check-in events. I just don't understand why I cannot get it to send a successful test email here. I don't believe the error is with it trying to connect to the relay. I don't even think it's getting that far. I think the issue is that TFS is unable to connect to its own local resource. Notice the highlighted part of my screenshot. I don't think there's supposed to be a double backslash there and I can't figure out why it is there or how to get rid of it.

Well, this was a bit of overkill but it was apparently a corrupt setting in TFS somewhere. I just reinstalled TFS fresh and it's working now. I'll never know exactly what caused the issue but it's gone now.
