I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The control registration is not enough in this case.
Rich Textbox control is not a part of VFP but VB6.  If you don't have VB6 license then you should not use/distribute Rich Textbox control...

So the help in this case is to install VB 6. I am just not sure what is the OS requirement for such installation.
Some versions of MS Office also contain this control but without the distribution license most probably.

Similar problem can happen in Visual Studio and the solution is same as for VFP: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/318597/you-receive-an-error-message-you-do-not-have-a-license-to-use-this-con

Additional problems can raise during the run-time and the solution is described here: https://support.microsoft.com/es-es/help/192693/license-error-with-activex-control-added-at-run-time

My solution for VFP is to avoid any additional libraries (except FoxPro ones) which require registration or installation and which may stop working when "something" in the OS or the OS itself changes... and this time seems to be very close.

OTOH, the license itself means just an additional Windows Registry entry so the solution must exist even when the official control installation fails. You just have to ask yourself whether this is the correct way...

You may find more when searching for the error code. But remember everything this is very old stuff.

After a lot of frustrating tryes....
I just use something like this, to use WordPad....

oWSH = CREATEOBJECT("wscript.shell")
oWSH.Run("MyDocument.doc", 2, .T.)

Open in new window

And simply use Word.

No more headaches..

Yes, this seems to be simpler and maybe also safer. ShellExecute should also work (http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll?Wiki~ShellExecute). Of course, we are still outside FoxPro which can bring problems.
