USB Mouse and Keyboard not longer recognized windows 10

I have a HP notebook and all of a sudden every time I connect the wireless or wired USB Mouse or Keyboard it does not recognize them. They show on other devices and it is unable to update. I tried 4 or 5 different sets and it does the same. Any other USB device (hard drive, usb hub etc..) works just fine in the same ports

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This problem has reached epidemic proportions. All of these relatively recent EE threads sound similar to your problem (but it's possible, of course, that yours is a different problem):

The quick summary is to uninstall Windows update KB4074588.

Microsoft is well aware of the problem and even posted an article about it on 23-Feb at the Windows support site showing two methods to resolve it:
