I am planning to run VMware Workstation 14 for personal use. I read that there is a free version of VMware vSphere in the following question:
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/29087138/Picking-Hardware-and-Software-to-setup-VMware.html

According to the following article, vSphere is a suite of tools for cloud computing.

Is it correct that there is no free version of VMware Workstation 14?

Correct, there is NO FREE version of VMware Workstation, you can evaluate for FREE for 30 days.

VMware vSphere, ESXi is a different bare metal product, which is FREE if you register for a license.

Vsphere refers to an ESX environment, a hypervisor running on bare metal.
The hardware needs to be on the VMWare HCL.

I use VMware Workstation V14 on my computer and it works great. It has more features than VMware Player and is worth the cost to license. I recommend it.
