When the HP laptop is removed from the docking station the sound comes on but put it back in and the laptop loses the sound ability?

Sounds to me like the docking station is taking over the built-in speakers. Is there a speaker / microphone jack included in the docking station? If so, what happens if you plug some speakers into the speaker jack?

I have a weird one, AP just said his sound stopped working. He has external speakers connected to this laptop but even when I disconnect them, I get no sound. When I go into sound and look at the playback devices, I can test it and you can see the mixer going up and down as if it's making sound but I don't get anything. I tried to uninstall, restart, and reinstall the sound driver but still no sound with the mixer moving as if there should be sound.

That will be a feature/bug with the docking station and the docking adapter design on the laptop. May be able to be overcome with some clever programming I suppose, but I've never had cause to search for such a solution.

Check out the device sound Mixer settings. On my laptop here, I get three different choices. High definition, Digital, Optical High Definition. Swapping those settings should cure the problem. I know I had to change them when I used a docking station myself some time back until I flooded it with a cup of coffee :)

Hope that's helpful.
