How do you archive a mailbox (not export) via Exchange 2010?

Hi guys

I'm trying to archive a mailbox (not export) from Exchange 2010 itself instead of someone's Outlook. I was looking into doing it by date too, so everything from 1st of January 2018 and back needs to be archived.

Any ideas how to do this?

Thanks for helping

Only way that comes to my mind is by exporting and then deleting from source mailbox. This can be done on server, with MailboxExport and Search-Mailbox command.
Maybe there is some better way, let's see what other have to say.

If you want to use PowerShell to archive mailboxes, I would do it just as Ivan suggested in the comment above. So first, use the New-MailboxExportRequest:
New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox <user> -ContentFilter (Received -lt '01/01/2018') -FilePath \\<server FQDN>\<shared folder name>\<PST name>.pst

And then, use the Search-Mailbox to remove the archived content (from the mailbox)
Search-Mailbox -Identity <user> -SearchQuery '(sent<01/01/2018) OR (received<01/01/2018)' -DeleteContent

You could also use the Search-Mailbox cmdlet without the -DeleteContent switch and provide the -TargetMailbox and -TargetFolder. However, it would simply transfer emails to the target location and you cannot input the target mailbox which is the same as the -identity parameter. In other words, it would only work if you have a separate mailbox for archiving purposes.

Are you looking to export a mailbox to a PST file or archive within Exchange to an archive mailbox?
YashyAuthor Commented:
Todd - I was trying to archive the mailbox straight from Exchange. So instead of having to go to Outlook and archive from each individual's mailbox, I wanted to archive in the same way but via Exchange to avoid having to go to everybody's machines, if that makes sense.
